Challenge Leads to Change
Even though I’ve been involved in some type of sport or fitness activity for most of my life, I’ve always fluctuated in weight and size, and generally was heavier and less fit than I wanted to be.
The workouts at Base 10 have continually challenged my body and will. I’ve never been stronger or fitter in my entire life. Along with committing myself to working hard on my weaknesses, I focused a lot in the past year on fueling my body with proper food (special thanks to Megan and her nutrition program!). Seeing the results of this combination has helped me realize how much I’ve grown in every aspect of my life since coming here. Clearly there is a physical change, but along with that has been a complete mental and emotional shift about myself and about who I am and what I will accomplish.
When I started, I would usually try to cover up (long sleeves, pants, etc) as much as I could. This has dramatically shifted even over the past few months, and I’m proud to show off my muscles both in the gym and outside of it. I think everyone can relate that it is very difficult to be satisfied with how you look, and I don’t know if I ever will be completely there. But I have made MASSIVE strides. I’ve lost about 15 pounds and at least 2 pants sizes, all while getting stronger than I ever thought myself capable of being.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE GUILTY PLEASURE?
Mexican food. I could eat a tortilla with meat, cheese, and vegetables every day and be happy. Oh, and don't forget the chips and queso and salsa and guac. I won't turn down the margarita either.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF WORKOUT?
I like workouts that involve a little bit of strategy to dictate how hard you can push yourself, and I probably love anything with box jumps and power cleans the most. I prefer to try to outlast everyone else in the longer workouts, rather than killing myself in a 2-3 minute workout and feeling the inevitable absolute misery for the next hour.
WHAT MUSIC DAY PUMPS YOU UP THE MOST IN THE GYM?
I like almost any music day (thankfully there's no country on the schedule). I only wish we could take the music when we have to go run.
